The Rakkiteers

Track - Rakkiteers-Seven Nation Army

The Rakkiteers are a five-piece covers band that formed in early 2007.

The band consists of Mark (vocals), Chris (lead guitar), Jamie (bass), Deano (rhythm guitar), and Sooty (drums), all hailing from the four corners of Barnsley. The five members of the Rakkiteers had between them previously played with two other Barnsley bands, White Lightning and The Badgers. It was whilst these bands were on their last legs that they got together for a jam, initially just for a bit of fun and something to do whilst their other bands were inactive.

Neil Smith of Barnsley original music band Fish Dam Lane initially filled in on vocals, with Mark joining the band after the first gig. It became immediately obvious from this first jam however that they were onto something, and the other bands soon fell by the wayside. Soon after this initial jam the opportunity arose to play a birthday party for a friend of some of the members. The gig was only two weeks away, so the band quickly threw together an hours worth of material, chose a name, and never looked back.

The set list gradually grew, and now reflects the diverse tastes of all the bands members from Queen to Queens of the Stoneage, The Kinks to The Killers, Arctic Monkeys to Motorhead, Northern Soul to Punk, and everything in between. From that birthday party in March 2007 more gigs quickly followed, mainly in pubs and clubs in South and West Yorkshire. Come and catch them sometime "you won't regret it"
